VEI INVOLVED IN AN EU -PROJECT PROMOTING ENERGY SAVING IN SCHOOLS

Vaasa Energy Institute is one of nine partners executing a project called EURONET 50/50 - European Network of Education Centres. The project started in summer 2009 and it is mainly funded by EU (Intelligent Energy Europe - program). The project participants come from Spain, Finland, Italy, Hungary, Portugal, Greece, Slovenia, Germany and Poland.

EURONET 50/50 - project aims at applying the 50/50 methodology to 50 educational centres, creating a European network of schools aiming for energy savings and fighting against climate change. The idea of the 50/50 concept is to share incentives for saving energy between the schools and the municipalities. The basis of the 50/50 concept is that 50 % of energy savings achieved from the energy efficiency measures taken by the pupils and teachers are returned through a financial payout, for their free disposal. The other 50 % of financial savings will be a net saving for the public authority that pays the bills. The result is that everyone wins; the school receives additional financial resources and the public authorities have less energy costs.

As a VEI representative VaasaEMG - research group from the University of Vaasa is executing this project. More information.
